☆ Ensemble Stars! - Wataru Hibiki substory: Resounding Love

Tomoya: "You mustn't, I already have a husband and children!"

Hokuto: "Something like that doesn’t matter. Gehehe, at least your body is honest."

Tomoya: "Ah, you mustn't! You mustn't!"

Tomoya: ....What's up with this scenario? I am not doing this!

Why is this a vivid love-hate drama like some afternoon soap opera? And more than that, why do I have to play a married woman~?!

I can't do this, Hokuto-senpai! To be frank, this is more difficult than any role I've had to play before!

Hokuto: I agree. I'm reluctant to play the role of an "illicit lover" too. It's even harder to get a grasp on than the prince's role that I usually play.

Why did I even join the theatre club....?

Tomoya: Ehhh?! Please don't decide to dwell on such a fundamental point after all this time! I worry about the same thing about once every three days!

Hokuto: The problem is the club president. If that "embodiment of absurdity" weren't around, I’m sure that our club activities would be much more worthwhile.

Tomoya: Let's assassinate him! Assassinate!

I'll assassinate that tyrant, and then build a new era with Hokuto-senpai.... ♪

Hokuto: Hmm. We'll save that as a last resort. I have a feeling that even if we tried to kill that that strange creature, he wouldn't die.

More importantly, we should continue practicing. If we can reach a point where we can play any type of character, that will become our strength.

As idols, we may be requested to appear in things like TV dramas unexpectedly.

When we appear as requested in front of an audience, we must also act as idols. Having stage acting as one of our skills will surely be beneficial.

Tomoya: That’s true, Hokuto-senpai! ♪ Just like you said, it could be useful at any time!

Hokuto: Even still, that aside.... This script really is difficult.

I randomly picked it up from one of the stacks of scripts lying around here, so should we try a different one?

Tomoya: Hmm.... If we did that, it would feel like a defeat, somehow. We don't actually have to act it out. We can just read the script out loud together, so....

How about we keep trying a little longer?

Hokuto: That’s true. If we casually settle for only doing the things we know we can do, we’ll never improve.

In order for "the things we can’t do" to become "things we can", we need to continue to grow. It’s that growth we’re searching for.

I'm proud of you, Tomoya, for facing forward so positively. I also need to try a little harder to put forth all of my effort and not give up.

Tomoya: Yes! If I'm with you, Hokuto-senpai, I'm sure I can face anything that comes my way.... ☆

Hokuto: Still, this script really is difficult. I wind up reading even the part I know in monotone.

I can't get a grasp on this "illicit lover" character's thought process at all. Why would he willingly behave against society's standards? Moreover, for the sake of short-term pleasure...

Hm~m. He's in love with the married woman to the extent that he obsesses over her.

Tomoya: No, you don't need to take it so seriously.

But I think you're fine, Hokuto-senpai. Even though I'm playing the role of a married woman, I don't understand the feelings of women at all.

Fufufu. But when I'm approached by a Hokuto-senpai that can't hold back his desires, I can feel my heart begin to race... ♪

Hokuto: Sorry, but that's a little bit creepy, Tomoya. Have you been corrupted by the masked pervert?

Tomoya: I-I can't allow you to make a comment like that! Please take it back!

Wataru: Fuhahahaha! Get along, love one another!

Love is a powerful drug that must be handled with care, as it can save or destroy the world. It's a most potent nectar.... ☆

Hokuto: There you are, masked pervert. Where did you just appear from? Did you descend from the ceiling?

Wataru: Fufufu! If someone wishes for me, I'll break down time and space to make my appearance!

I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, my beloved children! Yes, it is I, Hibiki Wataru.... ☆

Hokuto: No one was waiting for you, and we didn't call on you either.

Well, it's fine. President, I'm slightly troubled by my acting. If it's okay, I'd like to ask your advice. Otherwise, disappear from the earth. [1]

Wataru: Oh, I have two options! Ahh, how troubling, both interest me greatly.... ☆

In any case! What I'll tell you is that simply reading from a script cannot truly be called "acting"!

Hokuto: I see, there's some truth to that.

....Sorry, but I'd like it if you didn't speak so loudly. Tomoya's been frightened since earlier, and he's hiding in the corner hugging his knees.

Wataru: Fufufu! You're so timid Tomoya-kun. Your cowardice will detract from the brilliance of life!

Take a leap into the unknown, for I will embrace you.... ☆

Tomoya: D-Don't come any closer, pervert! I'll call the police!

Wataru: Oh, my! It's seems I've been hated! However, whether you favour me or are hostile toward me, I'll find you adorable all the same!

Amazing! Now, back to the main subject, why don't we try some improvised theatre?

Forget about your script, erase it from your brain cells!

Each of you shall become your role through and through, and act out your characters on the fly!

In this setting, you'll each consider how your character will move, and what lines they'll speak!

Consider it carefully, feel as they would! Express yourselves, perform.... ☆

Even if you're out of sync in the beginning, you and the role you're playing will become one! That's the beauty of what's known as "completely becoming" your character, what's known as "acting"!

Melt and become one, mingle together, and through sublimation, beautiful flowers will bloom! Do you understand, Hokuto-kun, Tomoya-kun?

Yes! Wearing a mask does not mean you should "conceal and erase yourself", but instead become a "new version of yourself".... ☆

Hokuto: Hmm. I'm convinced. As expected, you may be rotten, but you are the president of the theatre club after all.

When it comes to everything about acting, I'm sure there's much more I could stand to learn from you, president. Let's give it a try, this improvised theatre.

Wataru: OK! Now, let's begin! It's showtime.... ☆

Fufufu! Since you seem to be having trouble with it, Hokuto-kun, I'll take over the role of the "illicit lover"!

And then I'll swoop down and attack Tomoya-kun until he's thoroughly disgraced.... ☆

Hokuto: Hmm. I'll have to watch carefully. It's our president's "acting", after all.... ♪

Tomoya: Hokuto-senpai, becoming convinced through that kind of logic is a bad habit!

This pervert just wants to defile meeeee! Hiiii, don't come any closerrrrr?!

Wataru: Gehehe! Even if you dislike it, your body will tell the truth! Let me love you.... ♪

Tomoya: M-M-Mister policema~n?!

Wataru: Come now, let me drown you in pleasure! Let us rejoice and enjoy life to the fullest, and toss all ethics away in order for the flowers of our love to bloom beautifully.... ☆

Translation notes -

The title is 響き愛 (hibiki ai), resounding love, but 'hibiki' is a direct reference to Wataru's surname.

1 - Since it seems more ~flowery~ than his usual speech, Hokuto's wording in his last sentence here may be purposely convoluted to reference Wataru's theatrical speech. To make it even more chuuni, it could be translated as something like VANISH FROM THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH!

Wataru asks if Hokuto and Tomoya understand him, but I SURE DON'T. Why is he talking about sublimation, I don't.... This is actually my first time translating something of this length, so please forgive my mistakes! Trying to translate Wataru's speech is an experience.

Thank you for reading!
